Equipment

  • 4 pieces of paper, cut to 4" square You can use an assortment of colors and larger sizes if you want to make a rainbow of giant paper flowers. Try scrapbooking paper, cardstock or construction paper.
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • white glue
  • Pencil
  • Wood Skewers You can also use pipe cleaners, but they will not be as sturdy if you plan to put them in a vase.
  • Green Paper

Instructions

  • Step 1. Cut the paper into 4" squares.
  • Step 2. Fold each of the four pieces of paper the same. Next, make a simple fold in half horizontally to make a large triangle. Fold that triangle in half and in half again. Make sure edges are folded crisp.
  • Step 3. There should be 8 folded segments in the paper.
  • Step 4. Using a pencil, trace a half circle near the open end of the paper, creating a teardrop shape. Use scissors to cut out the shape. Snip the tip of the paper, too. Open each piece of paper.
  • Step 5. In one piece of paper, cut out 1 segment and set both pieces aside. Next, take a second piece, cut out 2 segments. Take the third piece, cut out 3 segments, and in the fourth piece, cut it in half.
  • Step 6. Line up your pieces in order, 1 segment, 2 segments, 3 segments, etc. You'll follow this to assemble your flower petals.
  • Step 7. Using a glue stick, and beginning with the 3 segmented piece, glue the piece together, keeping the center open. Set aside to dry and repeat with the remaining segments 4 through 7. You can also use hot glue for the layer of petals, but I prefer a glue stick.
  • Step 8. Use a pencil to roll the ends of the pieces you just glued.
  • Step 9. Roll up the single segment and glue on the end. White glue works best for this.
  • Step 10. Roll segment 2 around the center. Add glue to the tip and tuck into segment 3.
  • Step 11. Repeat, gluing and tucking each segment into the center of the next segment of layers.
  • Step 12. When finished, set aside to dry.
  • Step 13. Create the stem. Add a skewer and tuck it into the open center of the flower. Affix with white glue or floral tape.
  • Step 14. To make leaves, Cut them out of green paper.
  • Step 15. Attach with white glue to the skewer.
  • Step 16. Repeat if desired and add as many leaves as you prefer in your bouquet.
