Equipment

  • clear glass ball ornament (you could use cheap ones from dollar store)
  • chalkboard spray paint
  • twine
  • white paint pen
  • clear sealer spray paint
  • hot glue gun/ hot glue
  • painters tape

Instructions

  • Wipe glass down well with alcohol, try to touch it as little as possible. This will remove oil and fingerprints, helping paint to adhere better. Allow to dry well before painting.
  • Tape off top (hanger) portion of ornament with painters tape, cover it well but leave an opening for the loop. Tie on a piece of scrap string.
  • The best way to spray paint an object like this is to hang it on a limb or similar spot. Spray lightly with one coat of chalkboard paint to create a prime coat. Let dry for 5 minutes.
  • Spray an additional 2-3 coats until well covered, drying between each coat.
  • After final coat let ornament sit overnight to dry and set thoroughly.
  • Decide what you want to write on your ornament, use a white fine tipped paint pen to write it out, press gently and try not to dig into paint. Dry completely.
  • Spray with 1-2 coats of clear to protect and seal spray.
  • Remove painters tape and tie on a burlap string for a hanger.
  • At the base of the metal hanger run a bead of hot glue all the way around, work quickly to wrap twine around, continue around to the top to cover, placing hot glue every so often to secure, tuck end under and glue down.
